Dyfed-Powys - Chris Salmon

I grew up as the eldest of four children on a family farm near Presteigne, in Mid-Wales. My wonderful outdoor childhood in the lee of Radnor Forest taught me a lot about the joys and troubles of life in the country.

After a year of teaching and learning Russian, I returned to the UK in 2002 to join the Army and began training in Sandhurst at the beginning of 2003.

I served as an officer in The Rifles in Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Iraq, where I learnt a great deal about myself, about other people and about making difficult decisions in difficult circumstances. My military career involved police-support, public order and counter-insurgency operations.

I left the Army to pursue a career in politics, and have worked in a small business since 2008. I have spent the last four years working in the community as your Police and Crime Commissioner to deal with the concerns of local people. It is a job I want to do for the next four years as well.

I enjoy just about everything outdoors, as well as reading, writing and art. I have written occasional articles for magazines and newspapers. And, of course, I can’t quite let go of the farming.

If you elect me to be your Police and Crime Commissioner once again, I will give Dyfed-Powys the security that it deserves and will work hard to ensure that everyone in the community feels safer. A local vision, from a local person.
