My name is Ian and I was born and bred in Sheffield. I am married with four children, so as you can imagine I am very familiar with local schools and hospitals!
I have always tried to give something back to the community by being:
- A governor of a local school.
- Chairman of Sheffield’s Training and Enterprise Council (TEC) - supporting apprentices and encouraging small businesses.
- A trustee of two local charities currently helping communities in South Yorkshire.
I know how to deliver for local people. When I was at the TEC, I was on the South Yorkshire Forum and worked hard to secure £2.4bn external funding for South Yorkshire to improve communities and increase opportunities.
At NHS South Yorkshire I focused on reducing health inequalities with a reputation for standing up for patients, investigating causes of any underperformance, ensuring nobody is left out.
I beleive that the skills gained, of investigating root causes of why any community may feel to have been poorly served, need to be brought to the important role of Police and Crime Commissioner.
South Yorkshire still has a long way to go to rebuild communities’ trust so it can benefit again from policing by consent across the whole county. As your Police and Crime Commissioner I will work tirelessly to help make a difference.
