My name is Tony and I am a recently retired senior police officer. I was born and bred in Nottinghamshire, living close to where I was brought up, and I have dedicated 36 years of my life to policing. My enthusiasm and passion to provide effective policing by listening and understanding the views and expectations of our residents is why I want to be your next Police and Crime Commissioner.
According to the government, the Police and Crime Commissioner should provide efficient policing and maximum reduction in crime within the current budget constraints. I know how to do this. I can draw on skills I developed in my role as the Force Senior Crime Prevention Officer and served as Chairman of the National Chief Inspectors and Inspectors Police Federation. Furthermore, I was responsible for negotiating nationally with politicians to provide the most cost effective policing the country can afford.
I believe that it is vital that the Police and Crime Commissioner holds the Chief Constable to account for the performance of our Police Force. As a Police Manager for over 25 years, I have vast experience in communicating with senior officers, royalty and politicians in both local and senior government positions.
But I also believe that it is vital that the Police and Crime Commissioner does not give the public an unrealistic expectation of what can be achieved. As a Police Public Relations Department Manager for several years, my job was to interact with the public and lower the ‘Fear of Crime’ in a positive realistic manner. To do this I used a successful local multi agency partnership approach and achieved my targets.
I have a vast experience in fighting crime, roads policing, neighbourhood policing, community relations, schools and youth, firearms instructor, personal protection, operational firearms, control room manager, public order instructor, equal opportunities, diversity, HR, policy and performance, health & safety and management training. Since police retirement I have been elected as a Parish & Borough Councilor within Nottinghamshire.
Although we have the best Police service in the world, they should still be held to scrutiny to deliver the high standards that we the public demand. As your Police and Crime Commissioner I will do that.
